When it comes to opening up about your personal health situation, it is equally valuable to know the health-care priorities of your Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner. Learn about Fion. Learn about her approach to patient centered-care:

How it started for Fion:
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is to Fion what cooking is to families – a natural familial process. Fion grew up in a family in which her father and her brother used TCM techniques such as acupuncture, and taking medicinal herbal blends to improve health. People would come and go receiving needling treatments from her parents’ home in Taiwan. Then, when the same people showed up a few days later to offer homemade meals to the family, Fion realized that these people were giving thanks for the needling, and that the acupuncture treatments made a difference in their health.

Observing the people’s expression of gratitude for the positive effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine left an impression on Fion – but she was not ready to realize her calling until several years ago when she made a major career change. Fion left a successful and financially secure position to become a life-long student of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She returned to her calling.

Fion graduated from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Vancouver and received her professional designation as a Registered Acupuncturist and as a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbalist. After her professional training in Canada, Fion pursued further training to refine her skills and techniques by traveling and working with patients in a small region in China. Fion is a life-long student. She stays up-to-date in the profession and actively excels in her practitioner skills and knowledge of various health conditions, and modern day illnesses by regularly participating in professional study groups.

Fion is fluent in Mandarin, English, and Taiwanese.

Fion's Approach:
Fion takes a holistic approach to health-care that assesses the interconnected activities and symptoms that contribute to an individual’s health and well-being. What separates Fion from many others in this profession is her commitment to making health and healing a priority by keeping patient costs accessible and reasonable; as well, Fion's approach is on patient-centered care and on increasing her patient's awareness of their total health. This means that a treatment from Fion involves a mutual learning exchange between her patient’s health experience and her professional diagnosis and treatment.

As a patient of Fion's, you are encouraged to ask questions and receive feedback about your health. The goal of every treatment is to increase awareness of one's own entire health - not just the ailment that brought you to Divine Health Clinic. This holistic approach means that patients do not feel anxious about their time at Divine Health Clinic. Fion's health-care philosophy includes empowering her patients by encouraging them to tune-in and be mindful of their own healing processes.

Aside from the educational and awareness building component of every treatment, Fion's skills include integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine and Classical Japanese Style Acupuncture by applying a variety of therapeutic techniques at her Divine Health Clinic. Depending on the diagnosis, Fion may apply acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, or dispense herbs.

Fion's Divine Health Clinic:

Divine Health Clinic is relaxing, welcoming, and comfortable. You will not feel that you have been slotted in a patient-time-clock. You will not feel rushed. Fion's commitment to patient-centered care means that you will not be waiting for your appointment. Your time committed to traveling to, and seeking to strengthen your health at Divine Health Clinic is valuable to Fion.

At Divine Health Clinic, every treatment session is an experience in total healing. Divine Health Clinic is about taking an honest approach to health and healing, and abiding by an honest and transparent business model. The approach at Divine Health Clinic differs from many other health clinic's business model in that it does not view health and healing as a "product" that should be sold like a series of discount sessions or like a coffee card program. There are no illusions about recovery guarantees from the practitioner. There are no pressures to pre-pay for a set number of treatments. It is not a health franchise business.

Divine Health Clinic's business model also differs from that of many western-based Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics in that it maintains the essence of a century old approach to health as holistic, and that it involves in-depth inquiry and interaction between the practitioner and the patient. Divine Health Clinic does not market itself as specializing in a disease or a health condition - this is counter to Traditional Chinese Medicine approach that takes a comprehensive view of health. Patients with a variety of common and modern illnesses have experienced positive recovery at Divine Health Clinic including colds, infertility, migraines, body aches, sports related injuries, vertigo, insomina, menopause related symptoms, food poisoning etc. At Divine Health Clinic, each holistic treatment is the beginning and the end. One treatment may involve multiple diagnosis of a symptom; and, each patient's recovery time is dependent on his or her current health condition. For this reason, Divine Health Clinic does not promote "pre-sold treatment packages".

Patients are encouraged, based on continuous health awareness during each treatment, to take responsibility and priority, and make informed decisions about their own health-care needs. Fion will be available to provide total health guidance and treatments, and from this beginning, patients are empowered to determine their own health journey and healing processes. This is an essential foundation of Divine Health Clinic.

Fion volunteers at Friends For Life.

When Fion is not at her clinic, she is active in organizing events and educating the public about the contribution of Traditional Chinese Medicine to promoting positive health-care. She is an active board member with Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of BC, and is involved in volunteer work at Friends For Life. (After four years of working closely with the members Fion is on leave.)

How it came about:
My journey with “Friends for Life” began over three-and-a-half-years ago when I was compelled to give back to the community for my many blessings in life. The phrase “friends for life” made me curious. I now understand why.

My father impressed upon me the wisdom of reverence toward humanity and to pay love forward. As a young learner in Taiwan, I convinced my little classmates to give me their coins, and in turn, I donated the change to less fortunate families. It was then that I experienced the unexplainable joy of giving freely.

As a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, I have been granted the opportunity to share my blessings to those who are suffering from illnesses. I am grateful for the powerful life stories that Friends For Life members share. This has been one of the most rewarding memberships I've signed-up for. I’ve been moved by the resilience of many such as the person who is pain free for the first time in 16-years; 16-years of living with breast cancer. There exists an indescribable sense of healing through human compassion. I have made friends for life.
